One problem with a race is that it will be seen as wasted time by our more achievement-oriented members.
To alleviate this, how about a race from Bart to Port Royal? It's a trip we all have to make from time to time in order to turn in pennants, etc.
I'm thinking something like this:
Assemble in Bartica harbour. If 6 or less, as a group.
The starting gun is fired in Society chat after a random interval by the race organiser. No one to raise sails until this happens. False starts disqualified.
Race to Port Royal, evading NPCs - if engaged, well, that's just tough.
At Port Royal, enter port and go to a location to be revealed by race organiser in society chat during the race.
A question will also be posted that can only be answered by being at that location.
Finishing positions will be determined by the order in which the correct answers are posted in society chat.
Prize - not sure - tickets for the ship lottery? Cash from an entry fee?
As to ship types, we could either just use our fastest ships, or Desperation rafts. In the OB, I used a raft for this trip which is not as daft as it sounds because you get the ability to book transport there.
Also there was a useful bug (not sure if it's fixed) whereby you can overload your ship's inventory with the goodies from the turn in missions. So that raft can actually transport quite a lot
What do you think?
